I’m Austin Kimble, a jazz pianist, composer, arranger, music director, and teacher in Austin, Texas. I work with musicians here and around the world, from their first lessons to the performances they’ve spent years preparing for.

My musical life moves between jazz, musical theatre, ensemble playing, and teaching. I might be listening for a singer’s breath in rehearsal, finding a different route through a tune with a trio, or helping someone hear the movement inside a chord. That variety keeps me listening.

Piano and jazz are at the heart of my work, alongside trumpet, voice, and audition coaching. Beginners should feel welcome here, and advanced musicians should find plenty to dig into. We can get very specific about a voicing, articulation, or the way you place a phrase against the beat. We’ll also ask what you want that phrase to say.

I studied with the same piano teacher from age six until I left for college. That lasting relationship still shapes how I teach: I want to know the music you love, hear your questions, and keep discovering what helps you learn. When I taught music theory to musical-theatre students, we took it to the piano: finding a melody, playing through chord symbols, and hearing how the harmony supports the song. I want you to be able to sit down and make music for yourself.

I’ve taught online regularly for years, including a weekly student relationship that has continued since the pandemic. We can hear a passage, try a different fingering or voicing, and play it back to one another across time zones. For schedules that won’t line up, recorded coaching gives me time to listen closely and send a demonstration you can return to at the piano.

Locally, I teach at my South Austin home studio on an acoustic Chickering grand piano. Online, I work with pianists, trumpet players, singers, and other instrumentalists wherever schedules allow.
